An exhibition showcasing 76 artworks by 57 artist of various ethnic races.

Background
  1. This racial harmony art exhibition entitled “Different Races, United Passion” is organized for the first time by two distinct art associations in Singapore representing their respective ethnic communities. The Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya, Apad (Association of Artists of Various Resources) and Braddell Heights Chinese Traditional Art Centre.
  2. As the name suggests, it is part of the racial harmony day celebration with the purpose of showcasing artworks of different genre by different ethnic groups and to foster good inter-racial relationship especially among the artists community.
  3. In the absence of a distinct association for Indian visual artists, a private gallery - Utterly Art was invited to collaborate on this venture as they represent several Indian/Eurasian artists practicing in Singapore.
  4. The Braddell Height Community Club art exhibition hall is a proper and dedicated art exhibition venue that is spacious and well equipped located in the heartlands of Singapore.

Participation
Members of both associations and Utterly Art represented artists are invited to submit artworks of any medium or size, in 2 or 3 dimensional form. Participants may make as many submissions as they wish. However, to optimise the space available and be fair to all participants, the exhibition sub-committee comprising of officials appointed by the respective associations reserve the right to select and manage the arrangement of works that goes on display.

Theme & Presentation
Participating artists are free to present their choice of work. There is no specific theme required of art works submitted for this exhibition. As this is a community event open to the general public, artists are advised to exercise social and moral responsibility in selection of work for presentation. As the exhibition venue is equipped with an existing cable hanging system, drilling, painting or markings on the walls or floor are not allowed.

Expenses
Expenses for this exhibition shall be borne in parts by the two associations. Participants are responsible for their own material cost and transportation of art work.



About The Organisers

Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya
Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya, Association of Artists of Various Resources (Apad) is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 1962. Since its inception, APAD has organised numerous art exhibitions annually and programmes to promote the practice of visual arts and its appreciation especially amongst the Malay community.

Apad member artists also conduct courses and school Art Enrichment Programmes (AEP) in:
  • Children Art,
  • Youtn & Adult Art,
  • Batik Painting,
  • Photography, and
  • Islamic Calligraphy

Braddell Heights Chinese Traditional Art Centre
Officially established on 1st February 1986 by MP Mr Lee Yok Suan.

Objective of the centre are:
  • To promote and encourage the practice of traditional Chinese art.
  • To enrich and nourish the cultural life and upbringing of Singaporeans, particularly amongst Chinese Singaporeans.
  • Organise annual traditional celebrations i.e. Moon cake festival, dumpling festival, Lunar New Year and organizing grand-scale outdoor cultural activities for Singaporeans regardless of race.
  • Organise annual competitons i.e. National Chinese Calligraphy Competition, National Lunar New Year Banner competition,
  • Talks and seminars on art related topics.
The centre has formed several subsidiary groups, amongst them:
  • Tea appreciation club,
  • Artifacts appreciation club,
  • Chinese traditional calligraphy & painting club and
  • Chinese orchestra
The center also hold regular classes for:
  • Chinese painting,
  • Children Chinese painting,
  • ‘Gu Zheng’ intrumental,
  • Master ‘Pipa’ instrumental, etc.
On 16th June 2001 it organized its first generation Chinese Calligraphers & Artists Art Collection exhibition which was officiated by Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong.
